After four years of planning and renovating the old bank building into their dream restaurant Connie and Joy opened the doors of the Broadway Grill for business in December 2006. Their motto for the Broadway Grill is "We'll offer hearty and healthly food that won't break the bank." The Morris twins started working on the concept for their restaurant when they discussed the lack of good local choices to take their families out to eat. Soon after their idea was hatched they learned that the city of Burlingame was about to lift a year-long moratorium on any new restaurants in the area and would be issuing five new permits. Connie and Joy were the first applicants to file for a permit and after four years of planning, designing, and building the new restaurant their dream was realized. The atmosphere of the Broadway Grill is a tribute to the Broadway on the other side of the country and to the heritage of the old bank building. From the time you enter the restaurant you’ll see the visual cues that reference New York City’s deco architecture and lots of Broadway memorabilia that salute the Big Apple’s famous theatre district. You’ll see a staircase that reminds you of a New York Subway Station, comfortable dining booths with cut-glass bank dividers. Connie and Joy Morris were born at San Francisco’s St. Mary’s Hospital, Connie first by five minutes. The fraternal twins both graduated from Lowell High School in the City and followed the same career path to the University of the Pacific where they both became dentists. Growing up the girls shared everything- the same room and the same car, but they were never competitive with each other and remain best friends. Today the women are both married with a boy and a girl each and each have successful dental practices and a exciting family restaurant. |
